14 Mindfulness Tips and Tricks for Keeping the Stress Down

Stress can have a serious impact on your mental health and your physical body. But did you know that with mindfulness, you can keep your stress levels down? If you didn’t, we’re telling you now.

Mindfulness helps you pay attention to your daily life and can solve your stress problems. Don’t worry, when we say mindfulness here, we don’t mean spending hours contorting your body into difficult positions.

There are some simple tricks that you can use to ease your stress and relax your mind throughout the day. Want to know what they are? Read on, then. Here are 14 mindfulness tips and tricks to help keep the stress down.

  • Be Intentional

If something is stressing you out, set an intention for it. It’ll help you stay focused and remind you why you’re doing it. You can do this when you wake up in the morning or just before you do something important.

  • Meditate

You don’t have to pay for an expensive class to meditate these days. There are countless online apps to guide you through. All you have to do is find some quiet space and open one.

  • Draw

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a great artist to do this one. You can just doodle or colour instead. Getting your creative juices flowing will draw your stress out (Pun intended).

  • Take A Walk

Being outside in a peaceful environment can greatly help with your feelings of stress. Take a walk, stay in the moment, and pay attention to the surrounding atmosphere. Make sure you keep your phone in your pocket or at home for this. You’ll love how much better you’ll feel after.

  • Be Happy for Others

Randomly wishing for other people to be happy is great for your energy. You don’t even have to tell them, just practice it in your head. If someone is being particularly annoying, thinking good and wishing them happiness can work wonders for your stress.

  • Look Up

No, we don’t just mean from your laptop or phone screen. Although that might be a good idea too. Here, we mean at the stars. Let the heavens remind you that there are bigger things in life than what is stressing you. Pause and take a few deep breaths too while you’re at it.

  • Have A Cup of Tea

Settling down with a cup of tea is popular in many cultures for a reason. It can help you lower your stress levels. But don’t just make the tea and get right to drinking it. Pay attention to every part of the process. If tea isn’t your thing, you can try this with coffee instead.

  • Take One Step at A Time

If you have a to-do list of activities, don’t go running around trying to do them all. It also won’t be helpful worrying about the unfinished ones while handling another. Rather focus on each activity as you carry them out. Give it your undivided attention. Multitasking is a significant contributor to stress.

  • No Phones

They might have named it a mobile phone, but there really isn’t any reason why it should follow you everywhere in your home. Why do you have your phone in the bathroom, for instance? Take a moment to yourself and leave your phone in the other room sometimes. It’ll still be there when you’re done.

  • Treat Each Chore as A Mental Break

Dance while doing the dishes or focus on the bubbles. Letting yourself relax and enjoy the moment while doing your chores can be a big help. Even something as little as daydreaming while you do your laundry could do the trick.

  • Keep A Journal

And might we add, write in it. You don’t have to be a big-time genius to do this. There is no right or wrong way to keep a journal. Putting down your thoughts on paper can help soothe your troubled mind. You could write down three things you’re thankful for or something equally uplifting. You’ll feel better for it.

  • Pause at The Stoplight

There is really no need to rush to meet the stoplight. Especially if you aren’t late for anything. Pause, sit upright and take a few deep breaths. You should also practice this if you’re late and feeling unusually stressed. What will those few minutes extra cost you, anyway?

  • Take A Social Media Break

Don’t worry, all your followers on Twitter won’t have a meltdown just because you aren’t there. Social media has its uses, but it also contributes to mental stress. If you don’t want to take an outright break, try logging out instead. Having to type your password every time will slow down the number of times you’ll feel you need to check it.

  • Do Nothing

Trying to be alert and mindful of every activity in your day can add to your stress. To keep it low, try checking out every once in a while. Let your mind wander to let off some steam. Doing nothing can be a great activity sometimes.
